Due to the steady growth of the Buhkarian Jewish community in Fresh Meadows and the increased interest and need for a Buhkarian Jewish center, the property located at 71-52 172nd Street Fresh Meadows, NY was purchased on June, 2006.
The community raised the down payment for this property and the remaining amount was borrowed. Since then, the existing structure was temporarily renovated to provide for the needs of the Buhkarian Jewish community. Currently the Fresh Meadow Buhkarian Jewish Community Center (FMBJCC) provides the following services to the community:
- Daily prayer services
- Friday and Saturday Services gather approximately 150 attendees
- High Holiday Services gather approximately 200 to 250 attendees
- Hebrew reading lessons
- Bar-mitzvah training classes
- Lectures by Rabbinical leaders of the community
The amount of people attending services has been increasing rapidly and the opportunity to provide more for the community’s needs exists. To provide for the community we will be tearing down the existing structure and constructing a new building that can occupy approximately 500 people.
Our goal at Fresh Meadow Bukharian Jewish Synagogue is to bring the Fresh Meadows Bukharian Jewish community together. Those wishing to donate to help with the synagogue’s expansion project and future operational needs can write to 71-52 172nd Street Fresh Meadows, NY 11366; or call at (718) 591-1819.
