Registering as an Alternative Investment Fund Administrator (AIFM) has different legal consequences depending on where the AIFM is located. In general, AIFMs must follow the national and European laws and regulations that apply to them and get permission or a license from the right regulators. Depending on what they do, AIFMs may also have to follow other laws and rules, such as those about not laundering money and getting to know their customers. AIFMs must also make sure that the funds they manage are run in accordance with the laws and rules that are in place.
