Rabbi Emanuel and Miriam Shimonov (nee Melamed) will be heading out on Shlichus to establish the first Chabad Bukharian Center in Phoenix, Arizona.

Rabbi Emanuel and Miriam Shimonov (nee Melamed), and their daughter Batsheva, are heading out to establish the first Chabad Bukharian Center in Phoenix, Arizona.

Over the past few years, Phoenix has seen a significant increase in the number of Bukharian families who have made the city their home. With more than 1,200 Bukharian families currently residing in the greater Phoenix area, it is the second-largest Bukharian community in the United States.

Phoenix, the fifth-largest city in the United States, is known for its year-round sunny weather, rich arts and culture scene, and thriving business environment, making it an attractive destination for many new families.

The Shimonov family will move to Phoenix in a couple of months to establish the city’s first Chabad Bukharian Center. Rabbi Shimonov, who grew up on Shlichus in Calgary, Canada, has continued to spread Yiddishkeit to various communities throughout his life.

“Our mission upon arrival is to provide the Bukharian community with all the Jewish resources they need,” said Rabbi Emanuel. “This includes holiday programs and services, children’s programs, food distributions, and, of course, a warm and welcoming Jewish home.”
