More than three-quarters of a century separates the world community from the nightmares of the 2nd World War. The whole world applauded the army of the anti-Hitler coalition, and especially the troops of the former Soviet Union who made a huge contribution to the victory over the brown plague. Great courage and heroism were required by the soldiers of the Red Army, who made an invaluable contribution to the defeat of Nazi Germany and its allies. Representatives of many peoples and nationalities fought in the fighting ranks against fascism, including Central Asian (Bukharian) Jews. Only from the family members of the Kimyagarov family, on the father’s side, 25 people were drafted into the army, of which more than half did not return to their homes (see THE BOOK OF MEMORY OF THE PARTICIPANTS OF THE SECOND WORLD WAR. CATALOG OF THE NAMES OF BUKHARIAN JEWS. Author-compiler: Kalontarov D. A., 2015).

In the following material, the author tried to give a brief information only about three representatives of the Kimyagarov family, heroes who participated in this most brutal battle, who showed examples of bravery, courage and returned victoriously to their homes.

David Benyaminovich Kimyagarov, originally from Samarkand, was born in 1919, the fifth child of the eight children of a large family of merchant and NEPman Benyamin Kimyagarov. Childhood and adolescence fell on a difficult period. At the age of two, his mother died and he was left an orphan. In 1933, as a fourteen-year-old teenager, he went into exile with his family in Chardzhou (Turkmenistan), where he lived until 1939. From there, he was called up for military service in the Soviet Army and immediately got into the Soviet-Finnish War (1939-1940), and then took part in the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945). He was demobilized only in February 1946.

David Benyaminovich took part in the fighting on all the most important fronts, where the fighting took place from Brest and Stalingrad to the capture of Berlin. David Benyaminovich participated in the liberation of Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, the cities of Kiev, Riga, Vilnius, Warsaw, etc., as well as in the crushing defeat of the Nazis at Stalingrad and in the Orel-Kursk operation. He marched victoriously to Berlin. Participated in the storming of the Reichstag and left his signature on its walls.

David Benyaminovich was a scout, wounded four times. Bleeding twice, he did not leave the battlefield. This feat was reported by the young pathfinders of the” Room-Museum of Military Glory ” of the city of Vilyana of the Latvian USSR in a letter dated February 20, 1979 to the students of school 37 in Samarkand. The contents of the letter are as follows: “On June 22, 1944, on the eve of a major offensive along the entire 2nd Baltic Front, near the borders of Latvia, a battle with the enemy began at an altitude of 189.9. The scout Kimyagarov together with three fighters undertook to destroy the enemy firing point, which prevented the advance of the liberators ‘ army. A group of daredevils threw grenades at the enemy, which caused confusion in the enemy ranks.

At this time, the army rose to the attack and broke through the defense line. In this battle, David Kimyagarov was wounded, but did not leave the battlefield until he lost consciousness and was sent to the hospital. Another similar incident with David Benyaminovich occurred in one of the battles on March 1, 1945, when he was again wounded, but refused to evacuate to the hospital until he received an order from the commander.”

(A fragment of a letter from the young pathfinders of the” Room-Museum of Military Glory ” of Vilyana, Latvia, USSR, dated February 20, 1979, to the students of school 37 in Samarkand).

For his heroism and courage, David Benyaminovich was awarded many orders, including: “Red Star”, “Glory”, “Order of the Patriotic War of the 1st and 2nd degrees” and medals: “For the defense of Brest”, “For the defense of Stalingrad”, as well as a large number of diplomas and commendations from the command. He was especially proud of the Order of the Red Star, which he received for carrying the regiment’s banner out of the encirclement, hiding it on his chest.

On June 24, 1945, he took part in the famous “Victory Parade” in Moscow, and then was again sent to Germany and served for another 9 months as part of the group of Soviet troops.

In 1946, after demobilization, David Benyaminovich married a beautiful girl, Miriam Abramova, who was waiting for him to return from the front. In the marriage they had three children: two daughters Dora (Dvora), Bertha (Bulor) and son Noah.

In peacetime, David Benyaminovich worked in the field of trade, I had to remember the skills that his father taught him at the time.

In 1990, David Benyaminovich, along with his son’s family, repatriated to Israel.

In the footsteps of David Benyaminovich, a brave warrior, his descendants followed. His son Noah served in the armed forces of the Soviet Union, and his grandchildren stand guard over Israel’s interests in the ranks of the IDF.

While on a well-deserved vacation, he received a pension from the German government and tried to raise his 9 grandchildren as patriots of their historical Homeland.

David Benyaminovich died on 11 Aba 1994, at the age of 76, and is buried in the Petah Tikva cemetery in Israel.

The next representative of the Kimyagarov family who participated in the war against the Fascist invaders is Uriel (1923 – 2000). His father, the famous Rabbi Zion Kimyagarov, was well-versed in the oral and written Torah, the Mishnah, and other basic literature on the Jewish religion. Uriel is originally from Samarkand, but has lived in Tashkent for many years. At the beginning of the war, he was drafted into the Soviet Army. Uriel participated in the 2nd World War, was awarded two “Orders of Glory” and three medals. Victorious march reached Berlin and returned from the front. In 1947, he married Husni Abayeva. In their marriage, they had six children: two sons, Grigory (Grisha) and Ilya, four daughters, Margarita, Sveta, Lyuba and Erica.

Aron Matveyevich (Matatovich) Kimyagarov (1918-2009), participant of the Second World War, a native of Kokand. At the age of eighteen, in 1936, he volunteered for the army. With the beginning of hostilities, in 1941, at the call of the City Military commissariat of Kokand, he volunteered for the front. In September 1942, with the rank of captain of the Guards, he fought as commander of the anti-aircraft machine gun company 1609 of the airfield regiment of air defense 16 VA. In one of the memorable battles, his unit repelled all the bombing attacks of enemy aircraft, did not allow a single aircraft to pass to the protected object. When repelling the attacks of enemy aircraft, many high-speed bombers (SB) and several enemy escort aircraft were shot down. Aron Matveyevich was wounded twice (one serious injury). He was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War II degree, medals “For Military merit”, the jubilee Order of the Patriotic War I degree.

Honor and glory to the heroes of the war.
