In 1990-93, during the civil war in Tajikistan, about 6,000 Jews were trapped in a hellish war machine. And only thanks to the incredible efforts and coordinated actions of the envoys of Israel and Jewish activists, the city of Dushanbe was successfully evacuated. Among the rescuers was a well-known public figure of our community Mordechai Kimyagarov.
Mordechai is a representative of the famous family of Kimyagarovs, the founder of which is Abraham, a native of Iraq, who was engaged in the dyeing craft. Abraham was creative in his work and achieved high enough results for his time, for which he was recognized as the best in this craft and received the honorary nickname kimyogar (which means chemist in the Jewish-Tajik language). Mordechai’s paternal great-grandfather, Khaim Kimyagarov, was a well-known rabbi and public figure in the community, who received a good education in the Heder, and then in the yeshiva created by Joseph Mamon.
Mordechai’s grandfather, Abo Kimyagarov, worked as a wholesaler of tea products at the world-renowned diversified trading house Vogau. Abo became famous for his honesty, uncompromising and punctuality. Mordechai’s father, Mier Kimyagarov, a participant in World War II, finished it in Berlin in 1945. He was awarded the Order of the Red Star and military medals. All his life he was faithful to the precepts of the Torah.
These are the basic values that shaped the character and worldview of Mordechai, as well as the understanding of relations between people in the world around them.
He was born in 1954 in Dushanbe. Mordechai graduated from the history department of the Dushanbe Pedagogical Institute. He worked as a teacher, dean of the faculty.
Since 1989 he has been engaged in social activities. In Dushanbe, with his like-minded people, he created a cultural center “Hoverim” (Friends), where they openly studied the traditions of their ancestors, held cultural evenings, and studied Judaism. In turbulent times on the territory of the former Soviet Union, Mordechai went to homes, museums, private collections and archives in Samarkand, Fergana, Tashkent, Dushanbe and Khojent, where he collected exhibits for the future museum. In 1990-1993, as mentioned above, during the civil war in Tajikistan, Mordechai facilitated the departure of representatives of various nationalities from the country, as well as the export, on more than 80 aircraft, of his fellow tribesmen to Israel. This activity almost ended tragically for him. In his absence, the militants perpetrated a pogrom at Mordechai’s house. Upon learning of this, he managed to hide with friends and flew to Israel on the next flight.
Since 1993 he has been living in Israel. Owns the Bukhara-Yafa restaurant. Mordechai is the winner of the first world championship in restaurant sport in 2019.

Engaged in charitable activities, chairman of the cultural center “Druzhba” immigrants from Central Asia and Russia. Annually organizes celebrations on the occasion of Victory Day for war veterans, celebrates national holidays of Uzbekistan with the participation of ambassadors of the republics of the former USSR. He is a contact person and, by the nature of his work, maintains friendly relations with many diplomats, scientists and artists. It is pertinent to note his rather close acquaintances with the famous People’s Artists of the USSR Nikolai Slichenko and Iosif Kobzon, who recently left this world.
Mordechai is the owner of a collection of museum exhibits about the life and life of the peoples of Central Asia, mainly relating to his ethnic group. It has more than 20 thousand copies and continues to grow. On their basis, Mordechai organizes exhibitions, participates in international conferences on the history and culture of Central Asian (Bukharian) Jews, co-authored several books and authored many articles in periodicals. Awarded with the badge of the excellent worker of education and culture of Tajikistan, he is a laureate of several prizes: “Olive of Jerusalem”, named after “Shimon Khakham” and “Viktor Nekrasov”. Has received awards from the governments of Russia, Kazakhstan, Poland and other countries. In 2015, Mordechai was declared “Person of the Year” in the Bukharian Jewish community.

В 1990-93 годах во время гражданской войны в Таджикистане около 6000 евреев оказались запертыми в адской машине войны. И только благодаря неимоверным усилиям и слаженным действиям посланников Израиля и еврейских активистов г. Душанбе удалось всех благополучно вывезти. Среди спасателей был известный общественный деятель нашей общины Мордехай Кимягаров.
Мордехай представитель известного рода Кимягаровых, основателем которого является выходец из Ирака Авраам, занимавшийся красильным ремеслом. Авраам относился к работе творчески и достиг достаточно высоких результатов для своего времени, за что был признан лучшим в этом промысле и получил почетное прозвище кимёгар(что означает химик на еврейско-таджикском языке). Прадед Мордехая по отцовской линии, Хаим Кимягаров, был известный в общине равин и общественный деятель, получивший хорошее образование в хедере, а затем в иешиве созданные Иосифом Мамоном.
Дед Мордехая, Або Кимягаров, работал менеджером по оптовой реализации чайной продукции во всемирно известном многопрофильном торговом доме «Вогау» (Vogau). Або прославился своей честностью, бескомпромиссностью и пунктуальностью. Отец Мордехая, Миер Кимягаров, участник 2-ой мировой войны, закончил ее в Берлине, в 1945 году. Награжден орденом Красной Звезды и боевыми медалями. Всю жизнь был верен заветам Торы.
Таковы базовые ценности, на которых складывался характер и мировозрение Мордехая, а также понимание отношений между людьми в окружающем мире.
Родился он в 1954 году в г. Душанбе. Мордехай закончил исторический факультет Душанбинского пединститута. Работал преподавателем, деканом факультета.
С 1989 года занимается общественной деятельностью. В г. Душанбе со своими единомышленникими создал культурный центр «Ховерим» (Друзья), где открыто изучали традиции предков, проводили культурные вечера, изучали иудаизм. В неспокойные времена на территории бывшего Советского Союза Мордехай ходил по домам, музеям, частным коллекциям и архивам в Самарканде, Фергане, Ташкенте, Душанбе и Ходженте, где собирал экспонаты для будущего музея. В 1990-1993 гг., как было указано выше, в период гражданской войны в Таджикистане, Мордехай содействовал выезду из страны представителей различных национальностей, а также вывозу, более чем на 80 самолетах, своих соплеменников в Израиль. Эта деятельность чуть не закончилась для него трагически. В его отсутствии боевики учинили погром в доме Мордехая. Узнав об этом, он успел спрятаться у друзей и ближашим рейсом вылетел в Израиль.
С 1993 года живет в Израиле. Владеет рестораном «Бухара-Яфа». Мордехай победитель первого мирового чемпионата по ресторанному спорту в 2019г.

Занимается благотворительной деятельностью, председатель культурного центра «Дружба» выходцев из Центральной Азии и России. Ежегодно организовывает празднества по случаю дня победы для ветеранов войны, отмечает национальные праздники Узбекистана с участием послов республик бывшего СССР. Он контактный человек и по роду своей деятельности поддерживает дружественные отношения со многими дипломатами, учеными и артистами. Уместно отметить его довольно близкие знакомства с известными народными артистами СССР Николаем Сличенко и Иосифом Кобзоном, недавно покинувшими этот мир.
Мордехай обладатель коллекции музейных экспонатов о жизни и быте народов Центральной Азии, в основном касающиеся своего этноса. Она насчитывает более 20 тыс. зкземпляров и продолжает пополняться. На их основе Мордехай организовывает выставки, участвует в международных конференциях по истории и культуре центральноазиатских(бухарских) евреев, соавтор нескольких книг и автор множества статей в периодической печати. Награжден значком отличник просвещения и культуры Таджикистана, является лауреатом нескольких премий: «Олива Иерусалима», имени «Шимона Хахама» и «Виктора Некрасова». Имеет награды от правительств России, Казахстана, Польши и др. стран. В 2015 году Мордехай объявлен «Человеком года» в общине бухарских евреев.
